Being familiar with Gordon's research, it's possible he thinks that liberals interpret it more 'analytically' (?). I can't control for 'analytical thinking' style, but the differences are robust to education/other background variables.pic.twitter.com/bPXmT5IcTQ

I don't see how my interpretation is less likely than the more nuanced one that people interpret "measure" as "predictor". Look how low the belief is. My guess is people are interpreting it as "SAT is all that is important".

But that then begs the question: why do liberals and conservatives interpret it differently? And why are men more likely to express confidence than women (irrespective of ideology)?

Liberals probably view the situation (relative to disposition) as more important than do conservatives. And probably have a more negative overall view of IQ scores. I don't know of any specific beliefs about IQ that liberals hold that directly contradict scientific consensus, tho

Well there is evidence (which I previously pointed to) that liberals are more likely to think that intelligence is malleable (as opposed to mostly fixed), which is not the current consensus. Whether this finding obtains at large (i.e. beyond a student sample) remains to be seen.

Outside of intelligence, there's also some data showing that Democrats are more likely to think that, inter alia, sex differences in physical abilities mostly arise from 'societal expectations'pic.twitter.com/HRcDgfQxLb

I think you're asking the wrong question. It's not about whether they agree with the consensus, but whether they plainly *disagree* with a broadly *known* consensus.

Imagine a small group of scientists who find strong evidence for a deeply counterintuitive finding (e.g., elephants are actually more closely related to humans than they are rhinos, or something). Most people, if asked, would assume it not to be true without knowing the consensus

So what you're saying, in brief, is to not conflate scientific ignorance with science denial..correct?

IIRC, generally speaking, denial of e.g. global warming is not well-predicted by science knowledge in other fields, but well predicted by being a somewhat smart person with hostile ideology. @LJZigerell
