True, but the Google search engine algorithm isn’t just based on links to websites. Google does have its preferred and blacklisted websites. For example, a few years back mugshots were downgraded in search results.

Well, it's really hard to gather evidence on that kind of internal biasing of the information flow. I would not be the least surprised if it is later revealed in some lawsuit that Big Media have been systematically tampering with the news flow by tweaking the algos.
