Intolerance depends upon more contextual factors (the level of consensus, the level of moralization) than one's political view. It would be enough to argue that in this particular case, liberals are unduly uncharitable and prejudiced, or flout classical liberal principles.

It would be interesting to see, but unfortunately most of the research on the topic is quite, eh, biased itself (mainly about groups that righties are more hostile to). In these data, however, lefties are more intolerant in these times.

Btw these polls don't exactly show intolerance (= offensive ideas should be banned), they seem to show that liberals also have the moral emotion of disgust, just at different things than conservatives.

Or, it could also prove that rightwing views have moved so far off the scale that people are saying “enough is enough”. Or 30 other explanations. It doesn’t prove anything other than people can make statistics say anything they want. That’s true on both sides.

Liberals take politics personally. This is probably why they win ultimately, right or wrong.

How about applying this measure of tolerance: How would you react if a relative came out as gay? Or your child married someone from another religious group?

Of course, one can pick and choose specific items where conservatives are less tolerant, but overall, they are more tolerant, and especially for politics, which is very important for bias in science and media.
