It's a general pattern that more productive nations work less hours, Germany is one example, but also France, nordics, etc.

That's supposedly one of the reasons why US income/GDP so high, no vacations! One would expect a relative decline in happiness then, unless happiness is not very affected by vacations.

There’s an entire class of people for whom that’s what work is now. Legit labor is like 2-3 hours a day, with 5-6 of internet, lunch, blather, etc.(+1.5 of highway commute!) You see this pattern esp. among high verbal IQ workers whose main job is to be on hand for contingencies.
