Is there any research on the false allure of interaction effects? Why are humans in general and researchers too so trigger happy to believe in large interaction effects? Because they make for a cool story or is there something deeper?

I was asking about psychological theory why people have so high priors for interaction effects, whereas the evidence base for interactions in general is terrible. This is not specific to GxE stuff.
