*sigh* Here is what Howard Gardner (2011, p. 118) does with anecdotes: he builds an elaborate theory that has almost no supporting scholarly evidence. (No really... this entire passage is based on anecodtes and one peer-reviewed article.) #psychologypic.twitter.com/a8ktZFXlzC

One of the worst (of many bad) tendencies of 20th century #psychology was the desire to build theories on the basis of anecdotes and case studies (e.g., Freud, Bettelheim). Howard Gardner is just another in a long list of people who extrapolate inappropriately from anecdotes.

      Cool story, bro. Gardner (2011, p. 120). #psychology #AnecdotesAreNOTevidence #Badsciencepic.twitter.com/ALmCiiqn39

Howard Gardner (2011, pp. 126-127) also has a knack at dismissing any evidence that could undermine his theory. The highlighted area is basically his way of saying that his theory of musical intelligence is not falsifiable. #psychologypic.twitter.com/350vMxZmLF

The old-timey reliance on the consequences of stroke/TBI damage is also very quaint to a 21st century reader. #psychology

In which Howard Gardner (2011, p. 146) forgets about the existence of regression toward the mean AND doesn't understand that studying groups of outliers exaggerates differences among groups. #psychologypic.twitter.com/6bNGJ7wU8m

Well, there it is, folks! Howard Gardner (2011, p. 151) has proved that musical and mathematical ability are completely separate (n = 2). We can go home now! #psychologypic.twitter.com/nCoRU4AviV

And do you know how frustrating it is to read a chapter about "logical-mathematical intelligence" that contains logical fallacies and no mathematical data? I think Howard Gardner lacks the logical-mathematical ability to create a coherent argument. #psychology #ironypic.twitter.com/5QokQpwnQW

Howard Gardner (2011, p. 171-172) continues to undermine his own theory. Here are a few manifestations of "logical-mathematical intelligence" in different cultures that don't seem very, um... logical. #psychologypic.twitter.com/fWViLVVXWs

To support his claim of the existence of a bodily-kinesthetic intelligence, Howard Gardner (2011, p. 219) cites that great scientific authority . . . *checks notes* Norman Mailer?!?! #psychology #WTF?pic.twitter.com/TtbyO6iYbF

Remember, Gardner is not really that interested in the evidence. He told us. https://pandasthumb.org/archives/2018/03/general-intelligence.html …pic.twitter.com/zGn19ddWfu
