Hilarious 1990 NYT article on Vincent Sarich. He said some 'naughty' things, like male ice skaters being quite gay on average. I'm kinda having trouble seeing what is naughty about it since it seems to indicate gays are better than heteros at something.https://www.nytimes.com/1990/12/23/style/campus-life-berkeley-campus-is-split-over-statements-by-a-professor.html …

Gays themselves are quite into counting gays in various areas of life though. When I googled Sarich's claims, the most prominent websites about that topic were all gay-themed websites.

That one -- brain size x intelligence correlation -- has actually seen a lot of recent research and been thoroughly vindicated. E.g. pre-registered study of UKBB finds an estimated correlation of .35. https://scottbarrykaufman.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/Gideon-et-al.-2018.pdf …

Quite right about that particular field. I was referring more to a concern that taboos & sensitivities have grown to impede progress in even more questions than in the past. What's your sense? Are scientists more or less free to investigate & publish than 30 years ago?

Hard to say, but would be interested in a way to quantify this. Woodley et al came up with some ideas, maybe they can be improved further upon. https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0160289618300837 …
