This is why they got rid of all their employment screening processes and started hiring schizophrenic hobos. The influx of equally capable but extremely cheap labor allowed them to beat the market easily. I advice all other companies who want to social signal to do the same.https://twitter.com/patrickc/status/1027603986491170816 …

Based on our experience with Stripe, the guiding hypothesis behind it -- that talent is uniformly distributed while opportunity is not -- is an excellent (and highly scaleable) one to bet on.

In what way is this social signaling? This is an alternative VC model to find talent they can invest in who can't afford to travel to / live in SF. Their goal is literally to broaden the search for investment opportunities. Took like 1 minute of actually visiting heir site.

Janissaries work great. Steal talent from other, poorer, communities, and relocate them to rich areas with loyalty to their new masters and shame for their roots. Great way to run an Empire, or coastal elite cities.

The fuck—isn’t he just saying that there’s smart/capable people in middle America or not in the Bay Area that currently are not using their talents to their full potential, because of geography? ...

it seems foolish of him to rely on his listeners having your psychic powers, what poor unpsychic me read is “talent is uniformly distributed”

Every 100 square miles contains the same per capita talent—wrong, but this explanation makes sense given the context of the tweet.

Try reading the article before commenting, no psychic powers needed. Collison grew up in a small town in Ireland. Marc Andreessen, another funder of the Pioneer Fund, grew up in a small town in Wisconsin.

It’s pretty dumb to say “talent is uniformly distributed” (the salmon never gets to eat the eagle!), but ultimately all they really need for this company to succeed is to have a mismatch between the geographic distribution opportunity and that of talent.
