But additionally, all nonhominid traits for which there was evidence linked were also dimorphic! So previous authors have simply been scaling variance linearly and proportionally! But that’s not how variance works in dynamics...

It appears this paper of poor scholarship was accepted - as apparently admitted by the author in his Quillette article - for political reasons. The first editor even had the author add political content!

Although 50% desirable / undesirable is used as an example in the paper, the logical argument generalises to other distributions.
