@EPoe187 @KirkegaardEmil @charlesmurray @clairlemon I recently corrected my son who referred to me as a self-made man/success. I argued that given my genetic gifts, it came natural for me to become a success in trial law, my occupation. The same is true for many athletes. Agree?

Even my efforts, or those of gifted athletes, to work hard to capitalize on gifts/skills seems to have a large, genetic component.

Yes. The genetic lottery is omnipresent since all traits are heritable to some degree. But even the non-genetic variance is full of stuff that isn't up to us. In the end, we are all but cogs in a vast machine, and no one is ultimately responsible for anything, good or bad.
