Obviously not the largest sample sizes, but the lower tier biology labs I've worked in haven't been great.

It's not just small samples, but deliberately hiding the sample sizes. I often have to deduce the sample size from the degrees of freedom in figure captions! That and ubiquity of p=0.02 anova etc.

not sure in what sense "most prestigious", or even the most funded. People in the field usually kinda know which groups reliably put good work/work that you can replicate with no hiding around or bullshitting, but it's not written anywhere, you gotta ask those "in the know"
