That remains to be proven. In my opinion, the attempted denial of obvious differences has been very harmful. To put it bluntly, racial stereotypes are quite accurate and ignoring them is both irrational and harmful.

I've never gotten why it is a big deal if there is a mean difference with overlapping distributions on important human traits, including IQ, when different groups are going to be on the right-hand side on different traits. Just never gotten it. Still don't.

Answer: IQ is more prized than other characteristics because it leads a broad range of desired outcomes. Those outcomes are a big deal

1/I think part of the issue is that leftists, all else equal, are more likely than conservatives to equate moral virtue with being "smart" -- the brain trust, the smart set, the Adlai Stephenson campaign, etc. -- on the notion that man is tabula rasa but with study can win

2/virtue and break free of the "party of stupid." But liberals are also committed to fairness and equality and righting what they see as structural wrongs; the Civil rights movement was a constant touchstone. Hence some liberals may process statements about group mean IQ values

3/as statements that a group's value is mean. (The other issue is that accepting your own IQ has much to do with heredity may call into question your pride & accomplishment.)

Because utilitarianism is a dangerous idea. Aversion to the worship of numerical prescription to groups of individuals is a valid and worthwhile outlook on certain social issues.
