Yes indeed, it’s a common English phrase to say ‘I don’t follow you’, meaning ‘I don’t understand your point’.
But I’m still curious about the clarification.
It’s just that there are very clear laws about British citizenship, lex soli, lex sanguinis etc. which I expect the BBC reporter is at least conceptually aware of, and I don’t think it has anything to do with age.
Well anyway. Clarity is something we strive for in science; precision in language is terribly important when trying to convey an idea or even an opinion.
