In my experience, at least, profs involved in research had more demanding courses, up to date information, & taught outside of the textbook—I learned more bc of it. Sure, it’s ‘pointless’ for the student getting a degree as a signal to employers, but a small proportion of students do benefit from good, demanding profs who challenge them. Profs should teach to those students who want to learn and are intellectually curious. Teachers matter.
