This is why surface representation is tricky and dangerous. I’ve seen the tweets; this is not code switching. Code switching would be her using an accent from her own culture which she refuses to do. So, why is it so easy to mock Blackness? One reason, it’s an easy come up.

So many non-Blacks have ascended in this industry because they are not afraid to make mockery of Blackness, while at the same time demanding adequate representation of their own. It some Black Mirror shit we are caught up in. And, it’s frustratingly sad.
We can appreciate what someone represents and still be critical of them.
But, what does it say that some are clamoring to defend someone who is NOT Black yet clearly used our culture and slang to build her brand DOWN TO THE NAME?! It’s right there. She is above criticism.
