Update on the relocation efforts for clients of The Salvation Army’s downtown shelter. As of 3/17, 26 clients remain. Of the 26 clients remaining, 6 have relocation plans in place for next week.

Customers do not need to call 311 for the final citywide pass. Crews are driving all streets & picking up debris properly set at the curb.
As of March 20, crews have collected over 166,000 tons of debris & over 23,000 truckloads.
Austin Resource Recovery has started its second pass through the city to collect storm debris from customers + expects completion later this week. Crews will then begin a final citywide pass to be completed by the end of April.

It is unacceptable that our officers who have worked overtime hours haven’t been paid in a timely manner. As noted, this has been going on for over a year.
However, we are resolving this issue right now.
While many rank-and-file officers in the @Austin_Police are working overtime, they’re not always seeing that reflected on their paychecks. The Austin Police Association says missing and delayed overtime pay has been a problem since the mid-pandemic.

An isolated strong storm is possible east of I-35 this afternoon, prior to more widespread storms tonight. Some of these could also be severe. Very gusty winds on Friday and blustery through the weekend. Isolated rain-snow mix is possible to the northwest Saturday AM.

From day one, I’ve pushed The Salvation Army to keep the shelter open while they sell the building and they’ve finally relented at least for the short term.

The next steps include communication and dialogue with The Salvation Army clients, completing the process of matching clients to available locations, and coordinating logistics of program intake, transportation, and move-in.

The Homeless Strategy Division & community partners have identified alternative shelter or housing for ~50 remaining clients.
Salvation Army's local advisory board agreed to extend its downtown shelter ops for up to 30 days.
Clients will be accommodated in a variety of settings
