My name is Kina Collins. I'm a community organizer and proud Democrat from the West Side of Chicago. I'm running for Congress and challenging a machine politician. I get asked a lot, "Why are you challenging a Democrat?"
Here's why. #Thread 🧵

Our district, #IL07, is one of the most unequal districts in America. In Englewood, the average life expectancy is 60, yet just a few miles away in Streeterville the average life expectancy is 90 years. 30 years in just a few miles! Communities like mine are being left behind.

Working people in our district feel this difference every day. We feel it in hospitals that have closed their doors and schools that have shut down as funding was cut. We’ve felt it in closed vaccination sites, and in schools with more police officers than nurses or counselors.

The urgency of this moment calls for urgency from our leaders. Whether in my advocacy for gun safety or the fight for health care, I’ve been at the center of the most critical fights in my community. I’ll bring the same urgency to Congress.

This is one of the most Democratic and progressive districts in the country but our Representation is not leading on core progressive issues. The status quo isn’t working for my community. We need someone who will fight for change with the urgency this moment demands.

Leadership isn’t just about how you vote, it’s about how you fight. Congressman Davis came in with a progressive track record, but when someone spends 24 years in Washington, it changes them. He doesn’t lead with urgency because he doesn’t feel the urgency.

He’s become part of the system in Washington that leaves communities like mine behind. He takes money from corporate donors. He misses votes.
I’ve been at community meeting after community meeting on urgent issues like healthcare and gun violence, and he just doesn’t show up.

We’re in a watershed moment. We need someone who’s been organizing on the frontlines of the district. That's why I'm running for Congress.

But this campaign isn't about me. It's about us, our community, our city, & our district. Please share this thread with your friends and let them know about our campaign in #IL07. Then chip in what you can & let's elect a progressive fighter to the House.
