TSA requires that gun cases remain locked post-inspection for the duration of travel, locked with a lock only you (and not TSA) has a key for.
Further, any case with a gun is practically escorted through the airport after being checked because it can NOT be lost.

Doesn't even have to be a full weapon... an AR-15 lower receiver ~$100 (or less) will fulfill the requirement. It has to be the piece with the serial number on it. A few cyber researchers do similar... check the regs on my statement as it may be dated

After some thought about this overnight... flare gun may be more practical as it doesn't require a background check.

It does work, but as a hunter who has traveled between various states, I can say a traveling firearm puts a lot of onus on the traveler to make sure and get all the regulations and rules right.
