For the past little while, I've been working on a piece about Toronto's relationship to the alt-right, especially the "manosphere." Unfortunately that research has become relevant. I'm going to share as much as I can here for people who may not be familiar with these movements.

MRA is a proper name good lord! You are not an MRA even if you are championing men’s rights (I am) if you don’t actually go to their gatherings, and have actual membership to that org. MRA is unfortunately a misnomer; they took that abbreviation but not actually do honest work.
-
... What? There's a MRA organization, with memberships and everything? Since when? Do you mean... Marketing Research Agency Moped Riders Association Metal Roofing Alliance Miss Rodeo America ??? Seriously, what are you talking about?
-
There exist organized MRA groups. The National Coalition for Men (NCFM) is the oldest of the bunch. They're about as old as the NOW. Fathers and Families was another one, focusing on custody, but they rebranded as the National Parents Organization to avoid the MRA label.
-
I'm aware of those. None of them are "the MRA organization" and none of them are wholly representative of all MRAs. Even if you accept NCFM as THE MRA organization for sheer longevity, it's not misogynistic. 'MRA' is a descriptive word- anyone can take it on w/o membership.
-
My apologies, I misinterpreted "There's a MRA organization..?" as questioning whether or not *any* MRA organization exists, as opposed to questioning the existence of an org branded as "MRA" (like the NRA).
-
Like any other movement, organizations centered around it exist. My point is, there is no organization the Mann is referencing in his original tweet- it's not even implied. MRA is a label, sure, but it's a just descriptive one.
