Yes. They did execute people for blasphemy, historically speaking. We’ve just progressed passed this barbaric act. There’s still lots of African Christians killing people for being gay. Or albino even. It’s the extremism we need to fight. Not a specific religion.
The important thing to realize about FGM is it comes in all kinds of different forms: http://www.who.int/reproductivehealth/topics/fgm/overview/en/ … I'd never try to say a male circumcision compares to Type III (infibulation). But Type Ia is analogous, and Type IV (pricking, piercing) is generally less invasive.

Stop calling it FGM. Call it female circumcision. 1) That's what circumcised women call it. 2) "FGM" indicates it's different from male circumcision when in fact it isn't.

Female genital mutilation is barbaric, and anyone who practices it or condones it has no place in Canada.

I agree, forcing unconsented unnecessary irreversible amputation on a child is absolutely unconscionable. http://journalofethics.ama-assn.org/2017/08/msoc2-1708.html … The physical damage varies from cut to cut, and the anatomy varies between sexes, but the basic ethical principle is the same: Bodily autonomy.

I agree. I also don't think it is unreasonable to recognize that the consequences of female genital MUTILATION are far more severe than the consequences of MGM.
-
I would definitely agree they SOMETIMES are. But to make a general statement like "FGM is worse than MGM"? When FGM includes things like a pinprick or a piercing? And MGM includes things like subincision? When some males DIE on the table? They can't be compared so simply
-
Agreed. They aren’t the same and can’t be compared. What annoys me is this bashing of Islamic people within Canada when we haven’t had real issues. FGM is not widely practiced in the Islamic community in Canada and to say it is is pure fear mongering.
-
We've had ISIS terrorists shoot and run down Canadians in organized terrorist attacks. And we've gone from zero cases of FGM per year to hundreds. In the UK, there are dozens of reports per day... they're also up from zero. Islamic extremism is a problem in Canada.

Extremism is a problem, yes, islamic or otherwise: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2017/jan/30/quebec-mosque-shooting-canada-deaths … https://www.thestar.com/news/canada/2015/03/15/csis-highlights-white-supremacist-threat-ahead-of-radical-islam.html … Given the recent political climate both global and local, I think we should be a bit more concerned by the rise of white supremacist and neo-nazi influence and violence...
