I have the deepest, most abiding jealousy of people who can just “go to sleep” without their brain turning it into an ordeal for hours and hours. This has been my whole damn life.

It can at times be oddly antagonistic at times. I've met people who've become outwardly upset at me because, in their eyes, I'm not taking their advice seriously. Others who mean well can become distant, because that "not knowing how to help" makes it awkward to be around you.

I feel like this kind of treatment is listed in the encyclopaedia of unsupportive friendships next to “well, you had to know <horrible thing> was a possibility” when you finally DO speak about horrible thing.

It’s always like “why don’t you try <insert the most obvious thing ever>?” Which I think might be related to people just waiting for their chance to speak, rather than actually listening/empathising etc but that’s just me

It's frustrating because they're just trying to help and don't realize their "help" only makes things worse because it comes off as condescending at best. But because they had good intentions, they don't realize what they're doing and get upset if you react to the insult.

Lots of parenting advice falls into the same bucket. “Oh, your kid is a picky eater? Try this! It didn’t work? You must not have done it right.” No, my kid’s just not yours. Glad it worked for you.
