Instead of a check mark or music note, you’ll now see a grey background behind verified channel names across YouTube. You’ll also see a note about the change when you hover over a verified channel name to help everyone get familiar with it.

Even people who are new to the internet could infer what a tick meant and it's universal to almost every platform. Changing it to anything else, and something as basic as background no less, is just needlessly confusing. This will lead to more fake and scam accounts, well done.
