Any software that is a must have for this course? Or is it as general as possible or even shows how to do it in different software. (i know that if you have the knowledge you could transfer it to somewhere else, but still nice to now for following along)

The class will have VFX videos and source assets from
#UnrealEngine,#UnityEngine, and#Photoshop, with a touch of Animate CC and Maya LT. While you learn the most by following along in the software, it won't be required.

Yes and yes! Both UE4 and Unity will be covered, with Photoshop, and some Animate CC & Maya LT. All my personal favorites!
