The fact is, were it not for the CIA regime change war, arming & training tens of thousands of multinational terrorists, draconian sanctions, foreign occupation of North & East, looting the oil & burning the wheat, Syria would've now a brilliant economy & high standard of living.

It began with sanctions over Lebanon. The messed up part: We ended up doing a dirty war to punish them for cracking down on extremists, when we were the ones who demanded the crack down on extremists to begin with (as a condition to having initial sanctions lifted).

Well not true. Syria was the 135th richest nation before 2011. Education and health standards were falling and there was no competition as most of the economy was state owned. Assad didnt do reforms and he suffered the consequences

I agree, but would still argue that the corruption is too pronounced that we certainly would have needed a change. With time, education & providing decent jobs it would have been certainly better. But this region has enormous potential & some powers can't allow it to prosper.
