Last night I tried to describe the rationalist community to a friend who had never heard of it. I struggled, but finally settled on describing it as "A school of philosophy that arose on the internet rather than in the academy."

Yeah the community I’m familiar with is almost synonymous with Bayesianism. Coalesced around Eliezer Yudkowsky’s and Robin Hanson’s blogs.

No it's much better than that. Critical rationalism is a particular theory of rationality. If you present yourself to people like that few will be interested. If instead you just say you are interested in rationality that is very open and inviting for people to join in.
