How would you describe the rationalist community (to fresh ears)? And (while I have your attention) what are some other examples of fields born on the internet?

Up until this moment, I had never heard about a rationalist community. What are you rationalist with respect to? Is it survival? Socio-economic success? Morality?
-
weird... I would have guessed you were in the community! haha. The rationalists are the people who coalesced around Less Wrong and Overcoming Bias back in the day, and who now all read Slate Star Codex.

Does this coincide with the Bayesian community? (If not, how do they differ?)
-
Yeah the community I’m familiar with is almost synonymous with Bayesianism. Coalesced around Eliezer Yudkowsky’s and Robin Hanson’s blogs.

Rationalism existed before internet. Popper has written on it most lucidly in modern times. Internet may have a role to play in propagating it but my suspicion is at times it (internet) distorts rational though more by adding unnecessary noise.
