What’s a good movie / tv show that escapes the narrative fallacy? I’d like to watch something showing men evolving inside complex, emergent systems, instead of the usual emphasis on the impact and linear story of a lone hero

What I appreciate about all these genres is irreducible complexity. Nothing is entirely arbitrary, because everything is pushing up against everything else. There are no vacant niches; the gears all fully connect.

Yes! Irrationality or arbitrariness is the fruit of the poisonous tree in fiction. Makes everything after it useless and not believable

Okay this convinced me I should finish writing up how I think about movie genres and then share with you two so we can refine it. I hate current movie genres because they are not predictive of my enjoyment OR what I get out of watching them.

Slice of life show: High Maintenance. Show about the many different ways of living in the same city masquerading as a show about weed.
-
Agreed. Each episode was a a discovery. A peek into millions of different possible lives.
