What’s a good movie / tv show that escapes the narrative fallacy? I’d like to watch something showing men evolving inside complex, emergent systems, instead of the usual emphasis on the impact and linear story of a lone hero

oh man, this expresses almost exactly what I want most from my own TV and movie experiences. I’ll share some of my recommendations if you’ll share yours :).

1. The Wire (obviously?) 2. Deadwood. Even better than the Wire on this dimension, IMO. 3. Boyhood. Probably my favorite movie of all time. 4. The Florida Project. Kinda smaller in scope than the others, but it very much escapes the narrative fallacy.

From other conversations, I’ve also gotten: 1. Treme 2. Generation Kill 3. The Corner

The Deuce (newest by Simon) is promising after one season, but it hasn’t achieved anything near what The Wire achieved. We’ll see.
