Can anyone recommend a movie or TV show that depicts (even tangentially) a process of decentralization?

The Wire isn't really about decentralization, but does show the way many phenomena can arise as a result of systemic effects. E.g., many roles in a society are really ecological niches that will be filled by _someone_, in a completely decentralized way
haha yeah, it’s my second favorite show of all time, and for just that reason.

Deadwood. It's almost as epic as The Wire in terms of portraying a complex system, but adds the additional dimension of time. (The city changes substantially over the series.) And it has some truly beautiful language and character portraits to boot.
