I’m not convinced: for me,
@naval, and you, Twitter contacts are totally different from Facebook/phonebook ones, yes. But for the average user? 90% of my real life friends only follow phone book contacts and/or sports players (who are easy to guess for a new app).
This is a good point. I suspect the open-follow model of Twitter/Insta leads more users to deviate from their IRL contacts, but I don’t really know.

I wonder, though, how difficult to predict are those deviations *for the average user*. Give me someone’s location, favorite sport team, party & hobbies and I can probably predict a good list of follows. (Note: average twitter user != the average of your followers and followings)
