Are (most all?) people "experts in their own lives" at getting their System 1 needs met, and only appear irrational or crazy from the outside when the observer's own craziness is of sufficiently different flavor? Or am I just rationalizing?
I suspect this is often a very fruitful perspective to take. Q: What are some examples of System 1 (or 2) needs? (I’m familiar with the S1/S2 dichotomy, just not in the needs department.)

Probably a better mapping is "unconscious"/"conscious" instead of S1/S2. So an unconscious need is something that your system will in fact act to ensure it gets, whereas a conscious need is something that your conscious mind thinks it needs (which you might not actually seek!)
