Maybe also: you need to know how strong the friendship is (if you are going to rely on it in a group vs group conflict later). May be worth risking degrading it not in order to buy information for later.

People mostly annoy non-friends, though. And some annoyances are conditional: if you find that the person enjoys your behavior maybe that’s how you make a friend.

Like play fighting, the gain in knowledge and skill is also mutual. Hence people going back and forth annoying each other.
