I really appreciate Noah’s perspective here. It’s a healthy reminder (for me) that while extreme leftism does exist on college campuses, the outrage against it—by many conservatives, centrists, and libertarians—pattern-matches a moral panic...

I don’t know what to think! TBH I’m all ready to be swept up by this moral panic, and it would probably be a good thing. I just appreciate that someone is willing to say, “Hey, wait a minute...”

Or maybe this debate and market making of stances is the process by which we figure out and mediate these things;)

Totally fair. Haidt and others that've fairly criticized both ends of the spectrum have been the most level-headed in all of this.

I cherish Haidt and am generally primed to adopt his take on things — which is all the more reason for me to listen carefully to Noah/etc. But yeah, Haidt has generally been level- and clear-headed on these things

Last thing we need is a moral panic re: speech threats on campus, would prob make the inquisitions even worse. This is more like: 1.recognize you have cancer, but that its early; 2.treat with a modest intervention; 3.monitor to prevent metastasizing, requiring organ removal.

I've seen quite a bit from liberal arts schools and even large research universities first-hand. I need no convincing. What do you propose as any potential steps on the part of students, faculty, or administration?
