Email is my favorite social medium. But I’m starting to think about shutting mine down—it’s too much to manage in the way I would like.

I tried this a few years ago. Too many web services use it as ID. Closest I got to figuring it out was registering for FB with a phone number and signing into everything through FB. Didn't like giving FB the keys to the kingdom.
I mean, I would almost certainly keep an email address for accounts/etc. And "official business." And X, and Y, and Z... (I know). I just don't want to use it as a social medium, basically =].

Ah, I see. Micah is literally the only person I use it with socially and we're months delayed (think I broke the chain when I found out I have a ASD). Had another person try to rope me in but I've resisted.

Not that this is preferred. Not having another contact method for wonderful people I know here legitimately stresses me out. Part of the reason I'm trying to use my real identity more; hoping I'll be easier to find.
