Saying that Facebook controls what’s in the newsfeed is really no more correct than saying Google controls what’s in search results.

Google also controls the order of search results. But I agree that FB seems to have more control. Worth making this intuition more precise.

They can promote/demote whole categories of links/etc. But I take your point that there’s a lot of inherent structure they can’t buck.
