Oh, extremely way more polite (at least conversationally). On-the-street impoliteness seems like an overblown complaint to me.
Huh, never heard someone describe one place as more polite than another. And your transition difficulties were in adapting to the new norms?

Interesting; New York frequently cited to me as highly combative culture. Most travelling naturally bumps against unknown sacred boundaries.
