"Science" then sometimes becomes a truncheon for people in the mainstream/establishment to marginalize those on the fringe.

So I have some sympathy for the anti-"science" crowd. But of course there's PLENTY of baby to protect when you try to empty the bathwater.

I think a lot of people who defend science are playing No True Scotsman: whatever yields bad/biased/political results isn't _real_ science.

So I think one can see the point the social constructionists are making when one rejects the No True Science defense.
