I don't get how monotheism ever memetically outcompeted ditheism or polytheism.
I always figured monotheisms outcompeted primarily in cultural rather than memetic terms. "Don't split the ummah" and all that.

I think it's because the central texts are more ambiguous. More amenable to interpretation = resilient to schism.
