Have weird distorted belief in the back of my head (which I know is false) that networking doesn't work because it's never worked for me.

If a conversation with someone else helps you develop own ideas then I see how it could be a form of networking, but also seems different.
I might be talking about something else here: making friends/building relationships based on shared affinity for certain ideas.

Think that's certainly a part of it too. But in weird way also feels like could be less about one individual person, even while it also is.
