      I thought it was cog dissonance caused by clashing nature vs. social cause. With gender, story is authentic internal, with race, external.

      W/ sex pref and gender, neural or even genetic causes are seen as identity affirming (refuting "lifestyle choice"), but not so w/ race.

      So attempt to impose consistency is threatening. Incommensurate categories. Cultural appropriation is similar outrage on similar ground.

      Another argument I've heard (kinda related?) is that Tgenderism is common across cultures, whereas Tracialism is almost unheard of.
