I thought it was cog dissonance caused by clashing nature vs. social cause. With gender, story is authentic internal, with race, external.

W/ sex pref and gender, neural or even genetic causes are seen as identity affirming (refuting "lifestyle choice"), but not so w/ race.

I'd assume cuz transitioning gender is based on tangible body dysmorphia, the 'transracial' cases e.g. Dolezal r more dubious in motivation
