Bank teller verified my signature today. First time this has ever happened. Realization: "signing one's name" is 99.5% ritual.
and yet we rely on digital signatures, which already seem dubious on those grounds.

arguably, the threat that signing defends against isn't forgery, but rather post hoc denial of intention. "i didn't realize..." etc. maybe?
