Why do so many people make a big deal about the discovery of mirror neurons? Shouldn't they have been obvious ex ante?

yeah that it was happening on the neuron level. Versus, as example, being a thing we pick up culturally
isn't that "versus" a false dichotomy? everything we pick up culturally is reflected somewhere in the neurons

I don't think it's *individual* neurons, exactly. More like small clusters or something. But that doesn't seem material.
