Art criticism seems (to me) to have mind-killing properties. Is that because it's tangled up with politics, somehow, or for another reason?

maybe because it guilded itself too far out, like modern classical music or medieval reenactment societies
maybe. I'm also thinking of e.g. people who argue about which are the "great" movies, and movies aren't out-of-touch
