Art criticism seems (to me) to have mind-killing properties. Is that because it's tangled up with politics, somehow, or for another reason?

This is true and seems important. But why is art criticism worse in this regard than, say, reviews of non-fiction works?

Also: the experience of a work of art is usually atomic. Skimming nonfiction as necessary helps ease fit/non-fit line.
