Fucking incredible. Thanks for making this. Two Qs come to mind while watching: 1. What’s the relationship between the size and longevity of a vortex? Is it (sub|super)linear? Do tornadoes fall on the same curve as hurricanes? 2. What’s the smallest hurricane?

hah - thanks! So 1. I'm not sure you can say much about longevity of a tropical vortex just from it's size. Eye size can mean things about intensity. A smaller eye, given the same atmospheric/ocean conditions, usually means a stronger cyclone.

1 (cont). that said I bet there's a weak correlation between eye size & longevity just because when a cyclone gets that strong, it usually needs some time to do so. As for tornadoes - all of the long track tornadoes are large & essentially all of the small ones are short lived.
