I don’t care if we live in a simulation, I still want sovereignty over my own mind. Letting other people edit the contents of my mind seems exceptionally invasive, brings up thoughts of 1984, etc.

Interesting! And this hypothetical seems very different, to you, than someone who gets plastic surgery, or gets a sex change? To me this seems as innocuous as everyone getting to choose their own avatar in an online game.
