God I hate being evaluated at work Is there any feeling worse than being evaluated at work Hm this is kind of a specific negative reaction I don't have it in other contexts Might be because I don't feel confident at work? Or because there are teeth behind the evaluation?

I actually don’t know what industry you work in, but I’ve seen this in a lot of white collar jobs and it’s starting to bug the hell out of me. I don’t see how anyone can even pretend there are objective criteria.

Yeah BigTech It's My complaint is less about the arbitrariness and more about the perverse incentives for my specific job class but arbitrariness is also a major problem

Authoritarian box-fitting. It’s disgusting, IMO. Pathologisation of everything. It’s to spot and put pressure on those who “Don’t measure up” — literally in attempt to make ppl “legible”. I personally find all of this gross and do not agree w/any sympathetic takes.

Corollary — not being sympathetic to them does not mean I don’t understand why they’re used. It’s precisely that I don’t agree with these “evaluation procedures”

The rubrics are a load-bearing fiction for CYA HR defensibility for hiring/firing. A rubric *can* sometimes help guide an already well-intentioned manager frame, deliver, and make sure they don’t forget to address anything. But yeah, in the wrong hands,
