temperature of the cloud which is the air at that location. it's essentially where the strongest updrafts are. and as the air rises it cools (and creates clouds via condensation).
cool. so the colors are a way to visualize air flow(?). does the air ever do interesting, meteorologically-relevant things in areas where there aren’t clouds to show what’s happening?

in a sense. i'd say the colors are there to visualize temperature and it's up to the meteorologist/scientist to figure out what's going on. really important application is identifying hot spots before and during fires.https://twitter.com/weatherdak/status/984803417427066882 …
