Hey Twitter power users: have you figured out what makes people follow? I see so many tweets going ultra-viral, from accounts with just a few hundred followers. I would think with many thousands of engagements more of them would convert. So if not engagement, what does work?

I endorse Visa’s whole tweet, but the first sentence very strongly. Someone who would follow you after a viral tweet isn’t worth but a fraction of what someone “in network” is worth. Optimize for getting people you like and admire to follow you.

I totally agree with that. And I’ve pretty much spent the last several years optimizing for that... on Facebook.
